Apple Fritter Bites Recipe

  • Author: Naomi
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

These Apple Fritter Bites are a delightful bite-sized treat perfect for breakfast or a sweet snack. Made with tender diced apples and a spiced batter, they are fried to golden perfection and dusted with powdered sugar for a classic finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruit

  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (or coconut oil)

Other

  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Apples: Peel and dice your apples into small, uniform cubes to ensure even cooking in the batter.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt. Stir to blend the spices evenly throughout the flour mixture.
  3. Whisk Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, melted butter, and sugar until fully combined and smooth.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring continuously until you have a well-mixed batter with no lumps.
  5. Heat Oil: In a deep frying pan, heat enough vegetable or canola oil over medium heat to allow frying. The oil should be hot enough for frying but not smoking, approximately 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry Fritter Bites: Drop spoonfuls of the batter containing the diced apples into the hot oil carefully to avoid splashes. Fry them for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they turn golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  7. Drain and Dust: Remove the fritter bites from the oil using a slotted spoon and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  • You can use either Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples based on your preferred sweetness and tartness level.
  • Adjust sugar quantity to your taste and based on the sweetness of the apples used.
  • Be careful while frying and keep the oil temperature steady for even cooking and a crispy texture.
  • These bites are best enjoyed warm and fresh but can be briefly reheated in an oven or air fryer.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute milk and butter with plant-based alternatives.
