Ingredients
Scale
Salmon
- 1 lb Salmon filet (or 4 pieces, 4–6 oz each)
- 1 tsp Olive oil
Blackening Seasoning
- 1 tbsp Paprika (smoked or regular)
- 1 tsp Brown sugar
- 1 tsp Chili powder (or cayenne for spicier flavor)
- 0.5 tsp Powdered onion
- 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp Sea salt
- 1/4 tsp Dried oregano
- 1/4 tsp Fresh cracked pepper
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 400°F and prepare a sheet pan by lining it with foil and spraying it with a nonstick spray to prevent sticking.
- Mix Seasoning: In a small bowl, combine the paprika, brown sugar, chili powder, powdered onion, garlic powder, sea salt, dried oregano, and fresh cracked pepper. Stir until well blended and set aside.
- Prepare Salmon: Place the salmon filets on the prepared sheet pan. Rub each piece with olive oil using clean hands or a basting brush to ensure even coating.
- Apply Seasoning: Generously spoon the blackening seasoning over the salmon pieces. Use as much or as little as preferred, taking care to avoid cross-contamination with raw fish. Leftover seasoning can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
- Bake: Bake the salmon in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until the thickest part reaches 135°F. The salmon will continue to cook while resting.
- Rest and Serve: Let the salmon rest for 5 to 10 minutes after baking to allow it to finish cooking and reach the safe internal temperature of 145°F. Serve warm and enjoy.
Notes
- Adjust chili powder or cayenne amount according to your preferred spice level.
- Use smoked paprika for a deeper smoky flavor or regular paprika for mildness.
- Ensure the salmon is fully cooked to an internal temperature of 145°F for food safety.
- Leftover seasoning blend can be stored in a cool, dry place for up to 3 months.
- Resting the salmon is crucial to achieve juicy and tender results.
