Brie, Apple, and Fig Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe

  • Author: Naomi
  • Total Time: 16 minutes
  • Yield: 1 sandwich 1x

Description

A gourmet grilled cheese sandwich featuring creamy Brie, sweet fig preserves, crisp apple slices, and fresh baby spinach, all melted between buttery Italian bread. Perfect for a quick yet sophisticated snack or light meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread and Butter

  • 2 slices Italian bread
  • 1 teaspoon butter (softened)

Fillings

  • 2 ounces Brie cheese (sliced)
  • 1/4 apple (cut into slices)
  • 2 ounces fig preserves
  • 6 baby spinach leaves
  • Salt (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bread: Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each slice of Italian bread. This will help achieve a golden crust during cooking.
  2. Assemble the sandwich: On the unbuttered side of one bread slice, layer the sliced Brie cheese evenly. Add the sliced apple on top of the Brie, then spread the fig preserves over the apples. Place the baby spinach leaves on top and sprinkle a pinch of salt for seasoning. Cover with the second slice of bread, buttered side facing out.
  3. Cook the sandwich: Heat a griddle or frying pan over medium heat. Place the sandwich on the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes until the bread is golden brown on one side.
  4. Flip and press: Carefully flip the sandwich over. Place a second skillet or a heavy pan on top of the sandwich to press down gently. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the second side is browned, and the Brie cheese has melted thoroughly.
  5. Serve: Remove the sandwich from the pan, slice it in half, and serve warm for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Using Italian bread adds a nice crust and flavor, but you may substitute with sourdough or a similar rustic bread.
  • Softened butter ensures even browning of the bread.
  • To avoid sogginess, pat apple slices dry if they are very juicy.
  • Fig preserves add sweetness; for a less sweet version, reduce the amount or substitute with another fruit preserve.
