Ingredients
Scale
Cake
- 1 box Vanilla Cake Mix (any common brand)
- Ingredients as per cake mix package (usually eggs, oil, and water)
Frosting
- 1 container Vanilla Icing (can substitute with cream cheese or chocolate frosting)
Coating and Decoration
- 1 bag White Candy Melts (milk chocolate can be used instead)
- 1 bag Pink Candy Melts
- 1 cup Heart Sprinkles
Instructions
- Prepare Cake: Follow the package instructions on the vanilla cake mix, including adding required eggs, oil, and water. Bake the cake in a preheated oven as directed and allow it to cool completely.
- Cool and Crumble: Once the cake is fully cooled, crumble it into fine, even pieces in a large mixing bowl to prepare it for mixing with frosting.
- Mix with Frosting: Add the vanilla icing to the crumbled cake, mixing thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and holds together well enough to shape.
- Shape Balls: Roll the mixture into ping-pong ball-sized balls. Place these cake balls on a baking sheet and freeze them for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
- Melt Coatings: While the cake balls are chilling, melt the white and pink candy melts separately according to package instructions, typically in a microwave-safe bowl with short bursts of heating and stirring until smooth.
- Insert Lollipop Sticks: Dip one end of each lollipop stick into the melted candy melts, then insert this end halfway into each chilled cake ball. This helps secure the stick in place.
- Coat Pops: Dip each cake ball into the melted candy melts to fully coat, allowing excess to drip off. Decorate immediately with heart sprinkles for a festive look.
- Set: Allow the cake pops to sit upright in a styrofoam block or stand until the candy coating hardens and sets completely before serving or packaging.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, substitute vanilla icing with cream cheese or chocolate frosting.
- Use milk chocolate candy melts instead of white for a different taste variation.
- Freezing the cake balls before dipping helps prevent the coating from cracking.
- Store finished cake pops in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
- Use a styrofoam block or a dedicated cake pop stand to keep pops upright while setting.
