Hawaiian Roll Grilled Cheese Recipe

  • Author: Naomi
  • Total Time: 18 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A deliciously sweet and savory Hawaiian Roll Grilled Cheese sandwich featuring melted Monterey Jack cheese, buttery rolls, and optional crispy bacon and fresh tomato slices for extra flavor and texture, perfect for a quick and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Sandwich

  • 4 pieces Hawaiian rolls
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

Additional Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • As needed slices of tomatoes
  • As needed slices of crispy bacon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice the Rolls: Carefully slice the Hawaiian rolls in half lengthwise without cutting all the way through, creating a hinge for easy filling and grilling.
  2. Preheat and Butter: Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Butter the inside halves of each roll generously to ensure a rich golden crust during grilling.
  3. Assemble Sandwiches: Place the bottom halves of the rolls butter-side down on the skillet. Generously sprinkle shredded Monterey Jack cheese over them. Add optional tomato and crispy bacon slices as desired.
  4. Top and Press: Close the sandwiches with the top halves of the rolls, pressing down gently to compact the filling and help the cheese melt evenly.
  5. Grill: Cook the sandwiches for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side, flipping carefully to avoid spilling the filling, until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese inside is fully melted.
  6. Serve Hot: Once both sides are perfectly crispy and the cheese is melted, remove the sandwiches from the skillet. Slice if desired and serve immediately while warm and gooey.

Notes

  • Use good-quality Monterey Jack cheese for the best melting and flavor experience.
  • Butter adds better flavor and helps achieve a crispy crust, but oil can be substituted if preferred.
  • Adding tomatoes and crispy bacon is optional but highly recommended for enhanced texture and taste.
  • Flip sandwiches carefully to prevent the filling from spilling out.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the cheese at its gooey best.
