Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the yeast with half of the warm water (110°F) and set aside for 5 minutes until foamy, signaling the yeast is active.
- Prepare butter mixture: In a large bowl, add the thinly sliced butter, sugar, and salt. Pour the remaining warm water into this mixture and let it sit while the yeast activates, helping the butter soften.
- Combine wet ingredients: After 5 minutes, whisk the butter mixture until somewhat combined. Add the lightly beaten egg yolk and the foamy yeast mixture, stirring gently to integrate them.
- Add flour: Gradually stir in the all-purpose flour until just incorporated, forming a dough.
- Prepare the baking dish and rest dough: Brush a 9×13 inch baking dish with 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Spread the dough evenly in the dish, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rest for 15 minutes to slightly rise.
- Preheat oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) so it’s ready for baking after the dough rests.
- Top the dough: Remove the plastic wrap, brush the top of the dough with the remaining melted butter. Generously sprinkle shredded mozzarella, parmesan, garlic salt, and dried oregano evenly over the dough.
